Pleated, Honeycomb & Venetian Conservatory blinds

Here at DotcomBlinds, our conservatory window blinds can be broken down into three main varieties: Pleated Conservatory Blinds, Honeycomb Conservatory Blinds, and Venetian Conservatory Blinds. The differences between these types of blinds, is based on the fabric of the shade, as all three varieties will use the same hardware and have the same installation process as each other – Let’s take a closer look at the differences between these blinds!
-Pleated Conservatory Blinds, firstly we have our pleated fabric, this fabric is essentially a long sheet of blind fabric that has multiple horizontal pleats running up it, the pleats allows you to open the blind by lifting the blind and moving the pleats closer together and to close it by pulling the blind down and stretching the pleats open.
-Honeycomb Conservatory Blinds, next up we have our honeycomb fabric, this fabric in this type of blind is made in a line of honeycomb shaped cells, which can compress to open the blind and compress to close it. Each honeycomb shaped cell in the blind will create a small air pocket, which will help to provide additional insulation on the window, keeping your conservatory warm in the Winter and cool in the Summer.
Our honeycomb conservatory blinds can be made with a blackout or dimout fabric, allowing you to find the perfect level of light control for your conservatory.
-Venetian Conservatory Blinds, finally we have our venetian conservatory blinds, these blinds use metal venetian slats rather than a traditional blind fabric to provide shade. Once installed, the venetian conservatory blinds can be used exactly like a traditional venetian blind, with the option to pull the slats together to open the blind, or extend them to close the shade, additionally you can also rotate the venetian blind slats to further control how much light enters your conservatory.

Dual control or single control?

Across our pleated conservatory blinds range and our honeycomb conservatory blinds range, we offer two types of control options: Dual Control & Single Control.
-Dual Control means that the blind can be moved from the top and bottom of the blind itself, giving you unparalleled control over where you let light pass through your conservatory windows, you still have the option of shading the whole window, or you can block out certain sections of the window, depending on your needs at the time.
-Single Control means that the blind can only be operated from the top downwards, meaning that the top part of the blind will always be at the very top of the window & the bottom can be moved up and down the window to open and close the blind.
Currently we can only manufacture our Venetian conservatory blinds with the ‘single control’ operation.

Blackout fabric or Dimout fabric?

Before buying your new conservatory blind, you should think about whether you’ll need the fabric to be blackout or not. Blackout fabric will block out the majority of light from passing through the fabric, whereas standard fabrics will still allow some light to pass through the fabric. This means that blackout fabrics are commonly used in spaces where darkness is valued, such as bedrooms or media rooms.
Only our made to measure honeycomb blinds can be made with blackout fabrics, so if you’re looking to buy a blackout shade for your conservatory, you will want to look at our blackout honeycomb conservatory blinds to find a blackout shade.
On the other hand, if you’re looking for a regular dimout shade for your conservatory that will still let some light pass through, then you’ll want to look at our pleated conservatory blinds or our semi-transparent honeycomb conservatory blinds , either of these types of shades will keep your conservatory bright and airy whilst you shade it.

Blinds to keep your conservatory warm in Winter

Windows are an area of the home where heat-loss can easily occur, especially when they’re not properly insulated – Well conservatories are mostly made up of windows, so it is imperative that you ensure your conservatory windows are properly insulated with thermal blinds to keep your conservatory as warm as possible during the cold Winter months.
If you’re looking for an insulating conservatory blind, any of our Pleated or Honeycomb conservatory blinds will do a great job at providing additional insulation during the winter. But if you’re looking for a shade that will provide the highest possible level of insulation our blackout honeycomb fabrics are unparalleled when it comes to providing insulation, this is thanks to the air pockets created by the honeycomb design and the thick blackout fabric, which acts as a barrier keeping the cold from leaking into your conservatory

Blinds to keep your conservatory cool in Summer

On the other hand, you may want some shades to keep your conservatory cool during the warm Summer months, if you don’t shade your conservatory, you’ll find it creates a ‘greenhouse’ effect whenever the Sun is shining, quickly warming your conservatory up to unbearable levels.
Any conservatory blind will help keep your conservatory cooler during the Summer, by virtue of having something shading the conservatory from the beating Sun. But we offer a wide range of our made to measure conservatory blinds with a Solar Reflective Backing. The solar reflective film will bounce heat from the Sun away from your conservatory’s windows, which will contribute to a cooler conservatory during the warm months of the year.
