What's going on with all these fruits with multiple names? The Caimito is a relative of the Mamey, Sapote. The caimito, AKA the star apple, is a delicious tropical fruit native to Central and South America. It's named for the star-like shape of its cross-section magically revealed when the fruit is cut in half. The fruit's skin ranges from green to purple, and the flesh is soft and creamy, with a sweet and slightly tangy flavor. Caimito trees are medium-sized and can grow up to 50 feet tall. They are prized for their beautiful, glossy leaves and fragrant flowers, which bloom in clusters and have a delicate, jasmine-like scent.
