Student flights from the UK to Miami

Welcome to Miami. Which way to the beach? Florida’s coolest city is an icon in its own right, and makes for a truly epic holiday. The beaches are the main draw, backed by enormous skyscrapers and fronted by turquoise sea, and the nightlife is world class, with bars and clubs everywhere you look.

Miami is famous for its amazing array of Art Deco buildings, with Ocean Drive’s classic 1930s hotels forming the highlight, and it also has a vibrant arts and food scene, with some of America’s best galleries and restaurants. On top of that, you can even get a nature fix: look out for tropical birds nesting around the surrounding keys, and wander through the lush green spaces, like David T. Kennedy Park.

What are the main Miami airports, and how do I get from them to central Miami?

The main airport serving Miami is Miami International Airport, though there are others in reasonably close proximity, including Fort Lauderdale about 20 miles to the north.

Miami International Airport / MIA: Just a few miles (7 to be precise) from downtown, Miami International is the most convenient airport to fly into if you’re staying in Miami itself. As always, the quickest way from the airport to the city centre is by taxi, but it’s also the most expensive. If you opt for this, it’ll be about half an hour from airport to hotel. Other (cheaper) options include Miami Airport Bus, which costs £1.50 and takes up to an hour (including waiting time); Miami Airport train, which is the same price and takes about the same time as the bus; and finally Miami Airport shuttle, which costs about £2.

Fort Lauderdale-Hollywood / FLL: Fort Lauderdale-Hollywood is the other international airport serving Miami, though is located a bit further out - about 20 miles north of downtown. There are a number of ways to get from the airport to the city, though the easiest is Virgin Trains USA (formerly known as ‘Brightdale’), which is a high speed service connecting the two cities. A one way ticket costs about £7.75. An even cheaper option is Tri-Rail, which costs about £3.

When it comes to temperatures, Miami is always pretty warm, but the most comfortable time to visit is in spring, which runs from around March to May.
