AR-15 Rifles

Many people believe that AR stands for “assault rifle”, which does have some reasoning behind it yet is nothing but a misconception. What does AR really stand for in AR-15? The name goes back to the gun’s original manufacturer, ArmaLite, and is basically an acronym for “ArmaLite Rifle.” Developed back in 1956, it was an answer to the U.S Continental Army Commander's request for a smaller .223 rifle that could single-handedly replace several other rifles that were in service at the time. ArmaLite took their earlier model AR-10, designed by Eugene Stoner, and scaled it down. The patent and trademark were sold to Colt in 1959, who introduced several improvements and began mass production of the rifle. It wasn’t until 1963 that the AR 15 rifle was adopted by the military under the name “M16.” The semi-automatic version hit the civilian market the following year to never leave it.

One of the best AR-15 features is its high modularity. It is hands down the most customizable weapon out there that enjoys the abundance of part options beginning from AR-15 handguards and upper receivers to triggers and grips. This versatility allows the AR-15 to be a long-range precision rifle or a close-quarters combat rifle by simply changing the upper, let alone the ability to module the gun according to your taste and comfort.
