Interrail FAQs
Learn our language with some key terms explained below:
- What is a travel day?
-
A travel day is a 24-hour period in which you can travel on trains (or ferries) with your Interrail Pass. It lasts from 00:00 (midnight) to 23:59 on the same calendar day. On each travel day, you have unlimited access to the train networks where your Interrail Pass is valid.
Night trains
Taking a night train only uses 1 travel day - the day on which you depart.
- How long is my Pass valid for?
-
Interrail Passes are usually valid for a 1 month period. However, certain Passes are valid for longer, usually 2 or 3 months.
- What's the difference between Flexi & Continuous Passes?
-
Flexi Passes - these are valid for travel only on a number of travel days within 1 or 2 months. You can choose to use up your travel days whenever you want during that time period.
Continuous Passes - these are valid for an entire period of time - 15 days, 22 days, 1 month, 2 months or 3 months. It's possible to use your Pass for travel on every day during that time period.
- Can I travel in my own country?
-
Travelling with Interrail within your country of residence is limited to one outbound travel day (to leave) and one inbound travel day (to return). These travel days can occur at any time during your trip.
- What are seat reservations?
-
If you travel at busy times, on popular routes, or on certain trains (high-speed trains and night trains), then you are likely to need a seat reservation for an extra fee (in addition to your Interrail Pass). Check your route on the Interrail timetable to see if a reservation is mandatory or recommended. Then book your reservation here, or with the national train carrier.
