[Q] Is the Kiwi Sleep Baby mattress a 2-Stage design?

[A] Yes, it is! The mattress is double sided for infant and toddler stages. Each mattress has labels sewn into the mattress that will let you know clearly which side is which.

[Q] Which side of the Kiwi Sleep Baby mattress should I use first?

[A] The Kiwi Sleep Baby mattress is a 2-Stage design. One side for infant and the other toddler. The side you use depends on your baby’s age. Infant side is typically used from birth - 12 months. We highly encourage checking with your pediatrician to ensure your child is developmentally ready before transitioning to the toddler side.

[Q] When should I flip my baby’s mattress from the infant to toddler side?

[A] Pediatricians typically recommend transitioning after at least 12 months on the infant mattress side, but some babies may be ready before or after the 12-month mark. When your baby starts cuddling up on their sides to sleep, that’s usually a good indicator that your baby is ready for the toddler side. Each child is different, so we highly encourage checking with your pediatrician to ensure your child is developmentally ready before transitioning to the toddler side.

[Q] How do I know which side of the mattress is infant vs. toddler?

[A] On the mattress cover, you will find labels that clearly state which side is which. On the mattress core, there is additional marking  to ensure you put the cover back on to match the correct sides after washing it.

[Q] What are the dimensions of the Kiwi Sleep Baby Mattress?

[A] The mattress is available in 2 sizes: standard and mini.

Standard: 51.75” x 27.75” x 5.75”

Mini: 37.75” x 27.75” x 5.75”

[Q] Will the Kiwi Sleep Baby mattress fit my baby’s crib and toddler bed?

[A] Yes! The standard size mattress will safely fit all standard size cribs and toddler beds so you can use it for years.

[Q] How do you clean and care for the Kiwi Sleep Baby mattress and cover?

[A] The mattress cover is removable and can be machine washed on a gentle cycle after any accidents or messes. The mattress core is not washable but should remain protected and fresh with the water-resistant & waterproof covers. If any messes do impact the mattress core, absorb any liquids as quickly as possible with a dry towel. Then pat the impacted area with a warm water and gentle detergent mix. A safe disinfectant spray can be used to help remove odors if necessary. Make sure the cover and core are completely dry before baby’s use.

[Q] Can I use a sheet?

[A] Yes, of course! We highly recommend a breathable fitted cotton sheet that doesn’t hinder airflow. Waterproof sheets or pads are not recommended during your baby’s first 12 months as they can interfere with the individual cushion elements ability to reduce high spot head pressures while also impeding the mattresses airflow capabilities.

[Q] Can my baby use the Kiwi Sleep Baby mattress while the cover is in the wash?

[A] NO. IT IS NOT SAFE TO USE THE KIWI SLEEP MATTRESS WITHOUT THE COVERS! However, additional covers are available for purchase on our website for those times when one cover is unavailable due to washing needs.

[Q] Is the cover waterproof?

[A] The toddler cover is waterproof. The infant cover is not waterproof but is water-resistant. Most messes will stay on the machine washable cover to make cleaning easy. Waterproofing materials found in sheets and mattress pads can interfere with the individual cushion elements ability to reduce high spot head pressures while also impeding the mattress's airflow capabilities. Therefore, we do not recommend using additional waterproof components with the mattress for the first 12 months. Waterproof protection (sheets or pads) may be added after 12 months, but we recommend checking with your pediatrician to ensure your baby is developmentally ready.

[Q] Can I use a waterproof mattress protector or pad on the mattress?

[A] We do not recommend any waterproof protection in your baby’s first 12 months. Waterproofing materials found in sheets and mattress pads can interfere with the individual cushion elements ability to reduce high spot head pressures while also impeding the mattresses airflow capabilities. Waterproof protection (sheets or pads) may be added after 12 months, but we recommend checking with your pediatrician to ensure your baby is developmentally ready.

The Kiwi Sleep Baby mattress removable cover is machine-washable and most messes should remain on the cover, making clean up easy.

[Q] Wont accidents just leak through without waterproof protection?

[A] We know babies can be messy. In most cases their leaks will not go through the water-resistant, machine-washable cover to the mattress core. Waterproofing materials can interfere with the individual cushion elements ability to reduce high spot head pressures while also impeding the mattresses airflow capabilities in your baby's first 12 months. Therefore we’ve gone to great lengths to make the infant side water resistant while still allowing breathability through the infant cover. Once your baby is into their toddler and potty-training months, the toddler side cover is waterproof.

[Q] Is there any off-gassing?

[A] All adhesive components of the Kiwi Sleep Baby mattress have been independently tested and certified to meet the Greenguard Gold standards for lowest chemical emissions. All of the foam within the mattress is CertiPUR-US® Certified therefore meeting the highest level of purity and safety for a foam product. You can rest assured you baby is breathing and sleeping safely.

[Q] Do I need to wash the mattress cover once I receive it?

[A] It is not necessary as our Kiwi Sleep factory follows very strict cleanliness and covid guidelines. The mattress is sealed in virgin plastic to ensure absolute cleanliness as it makes its journey to your home. The mattress cover is designed to be easily washed, so if it makes you feel better doing so, go for it!

[Q] Does  the Kiwi Sleep Baby mattress use GREENGUARD GOLD certified adhesives?

[Q] Does the Kiwi Sleep Baby mattress use OEKO-TEX® STANDARD Certified Fabrics?

Yes. Our Mattress Cover Fabrics carry the OEKO-TEX® STANDARD 100 label, that certifies that every fabric component of this mattress, i.e. every thread, has been tested for harmful substances and that the mattress cover therefore is harmless for human health.

[Q] Does the Kiwi Sleep Baby mattress meet the ASTM Crib Mattress Standards?
