Discovery of Spain - 10 daysThis tour did everything I wanted it to do: it was inexpensive; it handled transportation and accommodations; it handled tickets to major attractions (Goya painting in Toledo, Grand Mosque in Cordoba, and Alhambra in Granada). The premium package was worth it for the extra meals, camaraderie with other travelers, the flamenco show, river cruise, Toledo tour and Spanish Village on Montjuic. I think the tour descriptions are a perk, but there was not much storytelling, just quick facts. I thought the tour was in English not bilingual. I don't have any problem with other language speakers, but it took twice as long to hear anything. And the poor tour guides were hacked out. They put us into separate groups when they could, and that was great. But wow, it is hard to ask the bilingual guides anything as they are constantly translating. Also, the provided meals in the premium package got pretty redundant. Maybe that is a feature of Spanish cuisine. Salt seems to be the primary seasoning in everything. It got heavy after a while. I had a hard time accommodating my non-carb diet to the limited offerings. One of the hotel dinners was terrible, frozen chicken patty reheated on a plate with unflavored veggies--it was like a flavorless tv dinner. Then we stopped at truck stops 4 times on travel days. How hard would it be to pull into one of the many pretty little towns for lunch and offer a bit more beauty and food variety? With the least expensive hotel, we slept far from the centers of towns. It took longer to take transportation when exploring on our own. I think I would pay more to get situated closer to the action for the amount of time we had. It was an economic tour, but I guess you get what you pay for.

Charming Spain - 9 Days
Charming Spain - 9 DaysI did this tour with my husband and two sons aged 20 and 17. We had a wonderful time. The one thing we felt could be better was the guides’ English descriptions. The ones on the bus did fairly well, but some of the local guides would speak in Spanish for a few minutes and then give only about two sentences in English. I also think providing more suggestions for what to do with free time would be nice. Googling takes a lot of time. The suggestions could be done electronically or in a paper handout. The bus guide should also provide a cell phone number for issues/emergencies. We were told where to meet the bus if we got lost. No one did, that I know of, but it would help if the guide could call that person if they were late or lost (or if they could call the guide) so everyone else isn’t held up. We missed the tapas dinner the first night in Madrid because the guide told everyone to be back at the bus at 9:15. We didn’t recognize anyone at our dinner so we got worried we’d miss the bus. We left before dinner was over but ended up standing on the sidewalk for an hour waiting for the rest of the people to finish. We saw the guide on our way out of the restaurant, she asked us if we finished dinner. We said no, and that we were afraid we’d miss the bus. Her English wasn’t good enough to understand us. She should have told us to go back down to the tables and finish. This was my husband’s birthday dinner!! Not a great way to start our trip. The hotels were nice. The one in Granada was really basic but fine. The one in Valencia had sub-par air conditioning. We went in July and it was incredibly hot so we were miserable at that hotel. But it was only one night. We opted for the premium package, the food was good and we enjoyed Toledo and the Flamenco show very much! The boat ride in Seville was very boring. If we had known, we probably would have skipped it. We loved meeting people from other countries - Columbia, Equador, Mexico, Argentina…my son speaks Spanish quite well so that was helpful. The English speaking people on our tour were the minority (there were only 12 of us). The theft in Barcelona is no joke. One of the ppl had her backpack stolen from breakfast at the hotel. Thankfully the police were on premises and caught the thieves! Watch your belongings and be wary of people trying to distract you. Although the trip wasn’t perfect we really did have a wonderful time!!

North Spain Discovery
North Spain DiscoveryBefore I arrived on this tour I thought my highlights would be Barcelona and San Sebastian but honestly, I enjoyed every moment of the holiday! The food and drink in this region is excellent and relatively cheap compared to the UK. You don't spend much time on the tour at the start in Barcelona or at the end in Madrid so I would recommend booking at least an extra night pre/post tour to be able to both great cities. Pamplona has a nice historical old town with some nice walks. San Sebastian is just the place to go to for foodies but is also a nice place in its own right! Logrono is the capital of the La Rioja region so you know you'll get to taste some good wine. I will definitely be coming back to this region! For the tour overall, I felt that we didn't really need 2 nights in Logrono and could have done with either an extra night in San Sebastian to visit Bilbao or a night in Bilbao itself. And that's taking into account the included evening tour of Logrono and the winery tour activities. Beware the 4hr + coach journey from Logrono to Madrid. Our tour leader, Maria Christina did a great job considering that she had to take over at short notice. She organised all our public transport and organised the optional meals, selecting some very decent restaurants. I definitely think she made the trip more enjoyable! I had great fun on this trip and hopefully have made some good friends for life!

Andalusia with Costa del Sol & ToledoMarina was great and most of the city guides were passionate and entertaining! Room for improvement in terms of the choice of hotels in Sol and Granada though as well as the food of the hotel. Or maybe Melia Lebreros in Seville was such a great standard that the rest wasn't able to match it. Otherwise everything was great and learned a lot about the great cities in Andalucia! Can't wait to come back soon :)

One awesome trip leader
- Walk the Camino de Santiago
Our guide got us safely to Santiago which was a big part of his job. We had a nice group of people on our tour. The leader had good recommendations for restaurants and city tours. However, the guide was very impatient with me when my backpack was missing, and I only found my pack due to my air tags. Gadventures was responsible for moving my pack during the day so I am not sure about the reason for the impatience.
