Pinot Blanc can be a tricky variety to work with, both in the vineyard and winery. The focus here is to keep things fresh and avoid this getting overly rich, cloying and senses bashing. Yet, there's no mistaking that there is still a lot going on within this wine once poured, but the wine growing and winemaking team have done a fabulous job of capturing and expressing the land that the grapes come from. A very natural expression of this classic Alsatian white variety that should be served nice and chilled with conversation and companionship.

Fairly hot summer days but cool nights ripen the Muscat grapes here slowly and steadily, encouraging the expressive floral varietal character but without the palate 'getting fat' and the ripeness overpowering the freshness. Kuehn have kept everything well in check here, also giving the grapes a long and steady fermentation at cool temperatures. The result is a super-fresh and expressive Muscat.

Pierre Trimbach is considered high up in the echelons of global white-winemaking. He has an award cupboard full to bursting to prove it. But the proof of the pudding is in the eating as they say (or drinking, in this case) and this classic Riesling shows off exactly why. Made to express the true potential of this great grape with a nose of floral aromatics and precise and direct citrus with a vibrant bone-dry palate. A great match for local fare such as goose, sauerkraut and quiche, and equally impressive with the more exotic foods of Asia.

Sables & Galets Pinot Gris (Pinot Grigio) has spicy overtones with rich and full fruit on the palate. Drier and less floral than Gewürztraminer but powerful with a long finish. The dominant variety planted in the recently recognised (2007) Alsace Grand Crus of Kaefferkopf is Gewürztraminer, yet for us it was this 100% Riesling that stood out from the crowd at a recent tasting. It is wonderfully expressive with quite a lot of power and intensity, but it is the natural freshness and balance of the wine that is totally captivating and impressive. With notes of orange marmalade and ripe apricot, it has weight and texture but is thankfully not overtly sweet or cloying. A wine that is ready to enjoy right away but will reward those with a little extra patience handsomely, after a few years cellaring.
