Iron-deficiency (anemia) is triggered by a lack of iron. Anemia is defined as a reduction in the number of red blood cells or the amount of hemoglobin in the bloodstream. Hemoglobin is a protein that can be found in the red blood cells of the body that transports oxygen to various organs. The body's tissues or organs may not function normally if it can’t get enough oxygen-rich blood when hemoglobin is low. The Anemia Blood Test is used to determine anemia and its underlying causes. This test panel includes:

Iron-deficiency (anemia) is triggered by a lack of iron. Anemia is defined as a reduction in the number of red blood cells or the amount of hemoglobin in the bloodstream. Hemoglobin is a protein that can be found in the red blood cells of the body that transports oxygen to various organs. The body's tissues or organs may not function normally if it can’t get enough oxygen-rich blood when hemoglobin is low. The Anemia Blood Test is used to determine anemia and its underlying causes. This test panel includes:

Complete Blood Count (CBC) With Differential and Platelets: A CBC is used to count the number and kind of cells in the sample of your blood, specifically red blood cells, white blood cells, and platelets. A CBC helps check for any health conditions such as infection, anemia, and several other disorders.

Vitamin B12 (Cobalamin): Vitamin B12 deficiency can lead to anemia (pernicious anemia), a disorder of the red blood cells. Vitamin B12 is necessary for normal red blood cell (RBC) and white blood cell (WBC) formation, repair of tissues and cells, and the synthesis of DNA. Vitamin B12 test is thus included in the panel to investigate the cause of anemia.

Iron, TIBC & Ferritin Panel: The iron test measures the amount of iron in your blood. The total iron-binding capacity (TIBC) test looks at how well the iron moves through your body.

      - Samples should be taken in the morning from patients in a fasting state, since iron values decrease by 30% during the course of the day and there can be significant interference from lipemia.
